The First Rule for Getting What You Want


The first rule for getting what you want is to be grateful for what you already have. And that means even if what you have is very little.

Think about it, if you cannot be grateful for what you have now, how can you expect life to give you more?

Let me give you an example if I may, and we shall use money, seeing as most people always want more of it.

If you are moaning about how little you have got, endless bills, never enough to buy this item or that gadget, then the Universe or Life (Or God, if you prefer) will not want to give you more. They (The Universe, Life or God) will look down upon you and think, ‘Hmm, this person is ungrateful for what they already have, so I’m not going to give them anything else’.

Imagine if a friend asked you to lend them $100 but you could only give them $50. How would you feel if they were totally ungrateful that you only gave them $50? Would you want to give them more? What about when they came and asked you again? Would you be inclined to give or hold back?

I know what I would feel like doing. And life is the same too.

Also being ungrateful for what you already have, gives focus to the fact that you are thinking lack-and what you focus more of your attention on, you will receive.

Be Ever Grateful

So be grateful for what you already have regardless of how much or how little you may think you have.

And I do not mean just in monetary terms either.

Simply ask yourself the following powerful question: “What am I grateful for in my life right now?”

Your answer could be many things: I am grateful for the people who love me, my health, the food on my table each evening, the job I have, my wonderful children, my beautiful smile, my capacity to learn. There are many things you could add to this list if you take a few moments to ask yourself this question and carefully think of your answers.

Gratitude is the first rule for getting what you want

Once you do this, life will be more willing to give you more of what you want and less of what you don’t want.

Try this. Be grateful for everything that is in your life right now. But be sincere. You can’t kid life, trick the Universe or fool God; they will know if you are being genuine or fake.

Then you will see more of the things you want coming into your life.

Yes, my friend, I’m grateful for all that I have now, and all that life has given me over the years. Even the tough lessons it has thrown me from time to time. They have shaped me into the person I am today.

I give thanks every evening for all the wonderful things in my life. And so should you.
