5 Ways to Kick-Start Your Life (Or Reclaim your success)

Many years ago, I was drifting. I wasn’t ambitious and I was going from one dead-end job to another barely staying in one for more than 6 months. From a carpet warehouse dude to a pot washer; from cleaning offices to working in a petrol station.

Even though I was still promoted to manager in 3 of those jobs I had no real vision for my future; no goals and no ambitions to do more, be more or have more.

Then one day I had some strategic intervention from a friend’s mother. She sparked in me that I could be more in life, that I could achieve and that I had what it takes to get more out of life. On the way home that very same afternoon I was wondering how I could get on the road to success. What would I have to do to kick-start my life, I mused.

I passed by my local school’s jumble sale they were holding outside and I stopped and looked at the books they had for sale on one of the tables. This was unusual for me because I was 27 years old and hadn’t read a book since Wuthering Heights in English literature back when I was 15.

But one weathered book caught my eye. Bring Out the Magic in Your Mind by Al Koran (I recommend this book highly) and I bought it. I took it home and read it cover to cover. And then again and again over the next few weeks and started to apply its principles.

That was 27 years ago now. Since then, after enjoying great success and fulfillment of some of my most wildest dreams I have had to kick-start my life twice more. Both times I came back stronger, bigger and better than ever before.

And, I hasten to add, wiser for the experiences.

Although I am life and performance coach, I also mentor other people who have lost everything and want to reclaim their success; and I mentor others who simply want to start achieving more in life. I am fully qualified to do this having lost everything twice and going through the process of kick-starting my life 3 times!!

So if you are in a similar situation, ie, you need to recapture your winning ways or you are just starting off on the road to success, here are my top 5 tips that can really thrust you forward.

1) Focus on the End Result You Desire: Create Your Best Future

This really is possibility thinking at it’s biggest and best. You must dare to dream and start focusing your mind on what you do want. It is easy to think about what you haven’t got when you haven’t got anything, but that is not the way.

It is not a good idea to think of past successes too often if you are trying to reclaim what you once had. This is also negative and should be avoided. By that I mean do not live in past glories. Too much time spent looking backwards means you are not focusing on where you do want to go.

Your unconscious mind does not the know difference between fantasy and reality. So create your bright future and let it impregnate your unconscious

I know it can be difficult at first to think of a great future when you have nothing but it is a must. If you do this on a regular basis it becomes not only easier but extremely enjoyable too. Small matters won’t deter you, obstacles to your goals are jumped easier.

Create a compelling video in your mind of what you want your life to look like this time next year. Play the video in quiet moments to yourself, especially last thing at night before you sleep and first thing in the morning.

Make the video bright, colourful and loud. Use all your senses. See, hear and even feel what you will be experiencing when you are 12 months into your future.

2) Cultivate an Inner Knowing

Change your thinking from I can’t see me ever being successful, to a simple inner knowing that things can get better; they will get better.

Thinking is a matter of choice. You are in control of your thoughts, nobody else.

Not the government, not your spouse, not your friends, not your boss, YOU. Take control of your thinking. Each time doubt creeps in, simply change your thinking. It takes a little practice but no more effort. You are thinking anyway. May as well think what will empower you.

When you just KNOW that better times are coming, life suddenly becomes happier

Create that inner knowing that anything really is possible. Who says this isn’t true for you? Who says you aren’t worth it? Who says you can’t have what you want? Who says you can’t be rich, successful or happier? Where is your evidence that says you can’t?

The truth is you can be anything you want to be. You must develop your own inner knowing that nothing can or will stop you from achieving what you want.

Create your own life metaphor or mantra. I have an inner knowing that anything really is possible. I live by this. It is wired deep into my being.

3) Watch Who You are Hanging Around With

One of the toughest things I did when I first kick-started my life was change my circle of friends.  Most of my friends I used to fight and drink with. I didn’t want to be like that anymore. I wanted more out of life.

Eventually, you drift apart anyway when you raise your mind to a higher frequency. But to speed up the process, if they don’t believe in you they will drag you back down to your previous level.

Your mind already wants to keep you as you are because its’ natural tendency is to resist change, so with added friends also stoking the fire, it makes your progress more difficult.

It is also harder to get into the circles of successful or rich people when you yourself are not there yet. I realised that I had to be on my own rather than be in the energy orbit of my friends, who were not thinking like me.

4) Look Your Best as Often as Possible

Some people say you shouldn’t fake it till you make it, others say it is okay. I don’t believe looking your best as often as possible when you are not successful or rich is faking it. I believe it is telling your unconscious mind that you are ready for the success you want.

It sends a signal to your unconscious mind that you are serious about what you want. It makes you feel good too. When you feel good, you will take better action. Feelings determine how you will behave; your behaviours (Actions) determine your results.

When you look good you feel good

Dress well. Be well groomed, clean shaven at all times. I always ask myself when I pass a shop window for example, would I do business with that image I see?

Listen, the world does judge you. People will make snap judgements about you when they meet you. Like it or not, it happens. Tell me you don’t make assessments when you first meet someone? Of course you do, it is human nature!

Look your best as often as possible.

5) Saturate Your Mind with Positive Learning and Actions

Seek out what you want to achieve. If you want a successful business, seek that. If you want to be richer, seek out wealth learning. Go hang around wealthier places and venues. Observe all you can and learn all you can.

This is far far easier now than it was 27 years ago when I started. Self-improvement sections were hidden away in a dark corner of bookstores with about 5 or 6 books. Now there are massive sections dedicated to it.

Plus of course you have the internet. What a resource. Read and watch as much as you can about people who have got what you want. Success leaves clues; a trail you can walk in to get what you want.

Immerse yourself in learning and discipline yourself to better actions

By doing this you will overcome the minds’ strong resistance to change, which you should never underestimate and be acutely aware of. When you start kick-starting your life, doubts and uncertainty are actually more pronounced!

Read, read, read (Or watch, watch, watch on Youtube) all you can about what you want. Really get the mind focused on it. This does not mean you try different methods to get what you want. Find one strategy that suits you and learn all you can about that.

You must undo your current actions or habits and create new ones

As far as positive actions go you must change what you were doing before. So if you were on line often watching cat videos or commenting on food posts, you need to change. If you were slouching in front of the TV every night you must change that and do something that will move you towards what you want.

Take stock of what actions you can change and start changing them.

Conclusion

Look, here are your choices. In one year from now you are going to be one year older. You will either be a year older and still as you are now OR you can be one year older and achieving what you want (Or very close to it).

Either way is up to you. One of them will happen. Which one is your choice and your choice alone.

What are you going to choose to do and where are you are going to choose to be? You can do it. You can get what you want.

Believe it, act and you will become it.
